Why EMFACE Can't Replace Ulthera
EMFACE's mechanism uses HIFES to trigger repeated high-intensity facial muscle contractions, similar to a muscle workout. The result is stronger, more toned muscle, which helps the structure supporting the skin appear tighter.
However, EMFACE has no mechanism that delivers energy to directly stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin or SMAS the way Ulthera does. So if a patient's primary issue is thinning skin, reduced elasticity, or wrinkles from collagen decline, EMFACE alone cannot directly address that problem.
Conversely, Ulthera Can't Replace EMFACE Either
Ulthera uses MFU-V to create thermal points in the skin and SMAS, triggering a natural repair process that leads to new collagen and elastin formation. But this mechanism has no direct effect on increasing facial muscle strength or mass the way HIFES does. If a patient's primary issue is age-related facial muscle weakness, Ulthera alone may not address the full root of the problem.
In Summary: The Two Technologies Complement, Not Replace, Each Other
Since facial sagging typically results from both collagen decline in the skin and weakening of the supporting muscles at the same time, physicians generally view EMFACE and Ulthera as complementary technologies rather than interchangeable options. Choosing just one should be based on an assessment of where each patient's primary issue lies.
